Aegis

free · open source
Rung 1 · Awareness/ Data & Devices Trust-minimized

Aegis is a free, MIT-licensed filter that sits between you and hosted chatbots like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, screening prompts and responses by keyword matching plus a local machine-learning classifier. All analysis runs on the device; nothing is sent to external servers. It filters traffic but does not change where inference happens, so the underlying chatbot still sees every prompt it passes.

Trust shape

Trust-minimized

The proxy mode requires installing a root certificate and routing all system traffic through it, which is a permanent decryption point on the machine if the tool is ever compromised or abandoned.

Facts

Editor's note

A local filter over remote AI — it changes what reaches the model, not who runs it.
